CHICAGO (February 24, 2025) - Today, Fair Share America (FSA) released a memo it sent to Members of the US House of Representatives following up on the widespread outcry from constituents against the House Budget Resolution during recess this week. The memo poses four big questions to members on their priorities for the budget process, and kicks off a dedicated call-in effort, as well as a six-figure digital ad buy in targeted states to amplify constituent voices and promote education around tax fairness nationwide.
FSA has been coordinating the widespread grassroots work in the states, helping to boost voices and support coalitions sounding the alarm on the devastating impact for families and state economics in pursuing deep budget cuts that harm working families to fund more tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.

SUBJECT: 4 Answers Your Constituents Deserve on Budget Priorities
To the Honorable Members of the House of Representatives:
Welcome back. As the head of the organization focused on supporting the grassroots movement in states across the country fighting for tax fairness for working people, I know it certainly was a busy recess. The massive cuts coming out from Washington to pay for more tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations have been a hot topic of discussion in the states and of deep concern for individuals and organizations in our communities.
No matter where you are located or which side of the political aisle you are on, it’s likely you all heard similar things:
From working families – cutting Medicaid and SNAP benefits would prevent them from accessing vital health care and putting food on the table.
From statewide officials –cuts would throw state budgets into turmoil, placing even more services and even potentially states’ bond ratings at risk.
From local governments and municipalities - cuts would upend municipal bonds, the core mechanism they use to fund local public works projects.
Budget and tax policy may be complex, but the real impact that your’ priorities can have on everyday people—your constituents—is straightforward.
So today I write on behalf of the grassroots organizations, local elected officials, and concerned citizens in the states to pose four essential questions to clarify your priorities in the 2025 budget process:
Will you oppose any bill that guts the benefits that the people of your district rely upon, like Medicaid and SNAP?
Will you stand with everyday Americans in opposing deep cuts to vital programs in order to fund additional tax breaks for the super-rich and corporations?
Will you oppose any bill that pushes additional costs onto states, leading to a likely increase in property taxes on hardworking families?
Will you oppose any bill that harms the ability of local leaders to finance their own public works projects like building schools or filling potholes?
With the House Budget resolution likely coming up for a vote this week, it’s time to make your position clear: Will you stand up for hardworking families? Or will you allow harmful cuts in order to fund more tax cuts for billionaires and big corporations?
Whose side are you on?
